How can you have Lidstrom at 8th?
This video is a complete joke.

Uh... hello?? ROB BLAKE!?!?!?!?

Great list, but the order is a little jumbled. Lidstrom should be absolutely no lower than 4th. Slot Robinson ahead of Potvin (career +730 is sick!). Not sure about Kelly in the top 10; I'd be inclined to include Macinnis in this list too. Bang on getting Orr and Harvey 1-2.

Orr 1
Bourque 2
Leetch 3
Salming 4
Lindstrom 5
Coffey 6
Harvey 7
Robinson 8
Chelios 9
Pronger 10

What you have to remember is the playing field is level, if a d-man from an earlier era was supposedly handicapped by by the equipment of conditioning or whatever, so were those he played against. A great player from one era would be a great player in any era. Interesting how Shore is always the only d-man who ever gets any mention from his era in these kind of lists, but in choosing only 10 its would be difficult to include many more from that time. Tough job choosing only 10.

@TheCurtisLeMay gretzky says hi

So true. LOL, can there really be any better hockey player than Robert Gordon Orr?
No. He embarrassed ALL who played against him.
For the love of the game: Number 4 Bobby Orr.

@20003606 Lidstrom is 4th on my list behind Orr, Harvey and Bourque. Ray, who I rank 3rd, was a better hitter, better at breaking up odd man rushes, & better at going into the corner-hitting a guy, and coming away with the puck! Lidstrom was better at avoiding hits and skating away from conflict!
Bourque played in the greatest era of D-men! Potvin, Chelios, Coffey, Robinson, Stevenson, MacInnis, Housley...etc! Lidstrom has had no competition compared to Ray!

@ArsiniC11 That's a ignorant thing to say. The whole game was different back then, so you can't compare just one player then to one player now you have to compare them to the era they played in and how dominant in comparison they were. Training, nutrition and equipment have all changed for the better, but everyone has access to it, so the league will improve equally. Sticks are better, players can shoot better, and goalies can stop better. So you look at how dominant a player they were.

You.......!!!!! how dare you say that!!!!!!
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Pretty fair list based upon the skill level during each of their eras... obviously players like Orr were a much higher caliber player compared to those of his day but you put him up skillwise against the best defenseman of today and he wouldnt compare... how many times will you see orr just skate past someone nowadays. never LOL

orr is uncomparable to anyone else, he is simply the best and would utterly dominate in any era.....

I disagree, you do realize that goalies back then let in what we consider nowadays 'soft goals' on a game to game basis, the speed definitely missing, physical play is not even present. The game back then reminds me of a leisurely old mens game played on a friday night. No offense

yes, i understand but the game and equipment has evolved equally and i just compare players to players in their own era's cause it is tough to compare diff. era's...but back then players were def. tougher then they are now and they didnt even wear as much equipment..Orr=best ever

lidstrom should be at least 3rd he has 6 norris trophys and 1005 points while missing 2 years of nhl play due to the strike.

lindstrom has def. showed great longevity but i just didnt find his "prime" to be as dominant as guys like potvin and bourque..however, since making this list i can now justify lindstrom over coffey, they close in my ranking and it could go either way
