US Gender Pay Gap Still Exists

Despite some gains at the higher income levels over the last two years, women in the United States still earn less money than men. This according to the federal Government Accountability Office. The GAO presented a report last week to a House of Representatives committee which indicates that salary parity between men and women in the United States has not yet been reached. Those findings grabbed attention of policymakers and the media: a bill called the "Paycheck Fairness Act," which toughens employers` legal responsibility to eliminate gender discrimination, is about to be introduced in the U.S. Senate. US corporations are deceptive with the title manager. Women are promoted quickly into various "Project Manager" roles. With no direct reports, these positions are about communication rather than people management. Every male project manager I've met has a deep technical background. The majority of women in those positions do not have the same background, indicating overpromotion, or discrimination in *favor* of women.

@solomonkane23 According to the US Dept. of Labor, women make less primarily because they are working in part-time jobs working shorter work weeks and thus received lower pay. We should be surprised if part-time workers earn more than full-time workers.

Women are flocking to fields of study such as Psychology (increase over 20 years : 4x) but continue to be a minority in Computer Science (20%) and other technical fields of study. With full access to any field of study, women avoid those that lead to higher pay.

Well, not really. Females are not required to register their names on the selective service. Thus they have the rights of a citizen, but not the obligation to defend the country. They can do if they want to, but, contrary to men, they are not required to do so.
