Best settings Picture profile for "Film/Cine look" with Canon HDSLR 5D,7D, 60D, 600D (rebel t3i), 550D (rebel t2i) -Video Mode-

Tip & tutorial sharing for the Film makers community.
Based on my personal tests and experience.

*Note that this is not an absolute truth, just what I found best and quite similar to CineAlta cameras curves & matrix*

*Technicolor, M. Bloom & LaForet suggest same settings except for saturation @ -2 while I suggest minimum level for post-production&color grading*

*ISO increments of 160 is also a recommended setting.

  • would these settings still be good for using 60d and using jpeg rather than raw?

  • hey i have a big problem. when i change the video settings to movie rec. size 1920x 1080 the video recording stops after a few minutes... the message "movie recording has been stopped automatically" appears when i havent done anything... can you help?

  • @animerocks56 change your sd card ; it's not fast enough... take a class 10 and it will work

  • @LFKzeGemini thanks for the video, would be nice if there was like an example of the quality at the end of it.

  • @Jemimaru there is... activate annotations... ;)

  • Usually just change your playback resolution If that doesnt work, your hardrive in your computer may not have enough rev speed (7500rpm ) 500gb-1TB is a good rev speed.

  • @DreamGlowPictures The best aperture setting varies from where you are shooting, for example if in indoors shoot at a very low aperture, with some sort of deliberate light facing on the subject giving a shadow look and a film look approach. If outside then adjust the iso until you get a not to noisey but low light look.

  • @animerocks56 Canon recommends the use of a Class 6 or higher (I use class 10) also, the more memory on the card, the longer the recording. I recommend a 32 gb or higher (You can find decent priced ones on Amazon) ranging $25-30 Also, be sure it's SDHC or SDHD.

Another thing, go into your Menu (not sure which camera you have) I have the T3i, but there are settings there that will let you decide on movie limits (select none). Hope this helps...

  • Sorry, one of the worst guides! Nothing specific, just flicking from this to that setting!

  • good joobs
