Let's just end this inane argument here. It's NOT staged, Carell does NOT hate Gervais and they are both so BRILLIANT that they can come up with these comedic moments on the spot. They'll probably make another movie together before the intellectually challenged finally realise this.

If you watch the entire thing it actually all runs smoothly, none of it is staged.
They just know each-other very well and are both comedians (Ricky is but Steve is still a comedic actor.) who can come up with quick things to make the original joke funnier, in this case. He just pushed him away, like they are enemy's.
But, you have to be a fucking idiot not to understand that, so please don't presume things without even thinking about it.
