I think that religion is killing itself. As we become more educated we will see how horribly violent religions have been in the past, and still remain violent to this day day. I think that more and more educated people will naturally not want to be included in any organization that has condoned so much death. I'd like to give a shout out to the Buddhist religion that never condones death. Oh yea, they don't believe in a God. How ironic is that?
@icarus313 I agree that the statement is an exaggerated one, and Christians do use it to their advantage that, by and large, they are not the cold-blooded killers that Islamic fundamentalists are (it does help with painting the picture of the Other as "evil"). The question Dawkins should have addressed is, how far away is the reality of an American Taliban? Eventually the "We're the Good Guys" PR image will wear thin as fundamentalists become more desperate to re-establish control.
You may have misread my comment, because I can't understand why you've written this. I was saying that Dawkins' comparison of the average Christian fundamentalist to a member of the Taliban was an insane exaggeration. I wasn't the one making the comparison, I was the one taking exception to HIM making the comparison. I'm saying that the people Dawkins was referring to as "An American Taliban", are really nothing like the Taliban. I think we actually agree.
@icarus313 You can't compare the Christians you know with the Muslim extremists on TV. You have to compare the most extreme Christians you've heard of with the extremist Taliban in the media. Your thinking is flawed. If you want to compare your average Christian fundamentalist to a Muslim, it would have to be an average Muslim fundamentalist. Terrorists on TV do not equal an average Muslim as much as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church doesn't equal an average Christian.
To be honest, that's a pretty extreme exaggeration. I've met fundamental Christians and even spent time with them as co-workers... and I've seen members of al-Qaeda and the Taliban interviewed on television. Needless to say, they were VERY different. Many orders of magnitude different. Overall, this is a great documentary, but Dawkins really went to far with that statement, I think.
@WinstonThirstkill Maybe god told him to takes drugs and have gay sex. After all, many of his followers think he has a direct line to god. Of course, they could be wrong and Haggard, as you said, is a fucking liar. Yeah...you're right.

@patrickimo1
Yeah and I think he was probably trying to ask that exact question you mentioned, but went about it wrong, so it came out exaggerated.

Humans could be so much more. We have such potential, but oh how we waste it. It's so sad.
