Film Description: "If you build it, he will come." That's the ethereal message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, "he" seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is "Ease his pain." He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is Salingeresque writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeoning baseball career in favor of medicine. The final "second-chancer" turns out to be much closer to Ray. That "magical" field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year.

2 people seem to be die hard football fans! There is no other speech that explains the passion of baseball than this one.

Take away the steroids, the mega-contracts, the endorsements, the hot dogs, the beer, the souvenirs, the mascots, the mascot races, the announcers, the singing of the national anthem, and the arguing over balls and strikes...and what do you have?

    Baseball.

But yet the way that baseball has been ruined by the players and owners. They will be lucky to have leagues within 50 years!

Yeah, you can do all of that ... but if the little town has no baseball-age youth among its citizens, what good is it? These parks all went into disrepair because there was no one around to use them.

but even with all the weeds, a baseball diamond can be repaired. the weeds can be pulled, the grass mowed, the bleachers rebuilt. and the game that once warmed your soul can warm your soul again. don't look at the glass half empty simply because a baseball diamond, think glass half full cause with an imperfect baseball diamond, you have a chance to repair that field and bring back the warm in your soul feeling, you once had

Do you know what's sad? Going through a little town in the middle of nowhere and encountering a baseball diamond that's covered in weeds, signs of years of disuse. Even with JEJ's speech, I will never again be able to warm my soul around the game I once loved.
