As you're well aware, The Preacher's Wife is a remake of the 1947 movie The Bishop's Wife. As in any good remake, The Preacher's Wife stands on its own merits. It is a feel-good movie in spite of the community falling around Rev. Henry Biggs (Courtney B. Vance). The Preacher's Wife faces modern day problems of a little boy being placed in foster care when his mother dies and a young man is accused of armed robbery.
Rev. Biggs seems a bit burned out as he sits among the rubble of a declining community and an estranged wife and son. In answer to a prayer, Dudley (Denzel Washington), an angel comes to make things right.
The Preacher's Wife is a heart-warming movie with many religious references and gospel singing. Of course with Whitney Houston playing Mrs. Biggs.
There are good lessons in this movie which makes it family-friendly.
