View footage of a kea trying to break into a trap in the Mt Aspiring National Park area to reach eggs. Mischievous juvenile keas are trying to outsmart DOC staff by being intent on breaking into predator control traps in the West Matukituki Valley (Mt Aspiring National Park) despite heightened security aimed at keeping them out. The boxes were secured to the ground after more than 75% of traps had been sprung last summer. However footage recorded in September 2011 shows determined keas working hard to crack the new security measures to steal the eggs inside, set up as predator bait. Go to www.doc.govt.nz/kea for more information on kea.

They are persistant aren't they. I assume that all the traps are suitably durable to stop the little buggers getting to the poison.
