  • The very first photo in this montage features my Dad aboard the Saxon in about 1949/50. He's in the white shirt.

  • @Pnhandy Wow thats awesome. :)

have you ever been on the Saxon?

  • @Bigfinlach Sadly, no. I think it was scrapped before I was born. When I was very little I was on the VIC-32 at Adrishaig, and then was on the VIC-72 at Inverary a few years back. Other than that, I think there's only about two others left (the Auld Reekie rusting in Crinan Harbour, and the Spartan rusting in Irvine Harbour).

  • @Pnhandy Aw thats a shame. Oh I thought Saxon was the same puffer they used in the vital Spark series in the 70's with Roddy McMillan as Para handy. But thankfully, Alud Reekie is being resorted, there is a pic at 2:09 with it and Vic-32 at Crinan Boatyard. :) yeah Spartin should be saved too.

  • I thought I remembered the sig tune being The March Hare played on jews harp from the really early TV series. Isn't there a puffer in the museum on Seil Island (I may have that wrong but I remember seeing a complete one in the dry somewhere up on the west coast).

  • where are the words to this 'song'

  • i used to work on the sparton when it was berthed at troon it was a hard life but i loved it

  • Fantastic, Puffers and Will Starr !!

  • Awww, sheer magic! Would bring a nostalgic tear to a glass eye. When I was about twelve I'm sure I saw a puffer at the Glasgow garden festival. I never really appreciated them until I was older and had read / watched the Para Handy stories. I'd bet it was a hard life, but it must have been amazing chugging along when conditions where fair.
