I explain this technique in an article:
http://www.luminance.org/code/2009/07/23/simple-dynamic-music-with-xact

An experiment with adjusting the volume of background music tracks when the player enter/leaves an area (the blue rectangle to the left).

The background music is a pair of linked sounds in XACT that play in sync, and the volume of one of the tracks is linked to an XACT variable.

  • I know this is a year after you posted the video, but it works great! Dynamic music is one of the coolest things you can do in a game, and you helped me do it perfectly.

  • This is actually a very nice technique and could add a nice touch to a game, if done right. Thanks for sharing :)
