Thumbs up to the cop, thumbs down to retarded protestors

That's real mature. Why don't you grow up. Go move somewhere where police brutality is actually does happen. How many times have you seen an un-provoked police officer beat someone. And yes, shouting "FUCK THE PIGS" actually does count as a provocation.
Dumbass.

It is disgusting to see the University destoying beautiful wildlife habitat up there. But they are trying to make room for students in a State where the population until recently was growing by over 1000 people a day. If these students really want to save trees they should work to give everyone on Earth free and easy access to birth control.

Go police - get their asses! =P

These cops are amateurs. Fire indescribably in the crowd with blanks and they will disperse.
Maybe we should take lessons of real police brutality, say Myanmar, the Sudan, Algeria, China, Russia, North Korea. Every time a couple of young leftists show up to protest, half always wear masks, bandannas, at 4:00 the guy looked like an Iraqi insurgent, they push a cop and antagonize them and surprise, the cops take action. If these freaks weren't violent, maybe cops wouldn't have to babysit them.

'The police, your friend and helper???'
Yes, but only for the decadent politicians..

-

wow, what an ugly scene at ucsc..those cops had to take it 'there' huh? at his peace loving hippie campus ( hey hey hey, Porter, BA in Film and Digital Media 2001)...that's what college students DO, protest crap they aren't feeling in society from a 'thoughful, young and mostly unjaded viewpoint'. thank you for this. 'good to know uc students still care'. and that cops can be retarded!.

more than a few times cops have gotten me on a dark street and intimidated and threatened me just for fun...cops abuse their powers every day...too many of them are sadists...
-
Taser them next time.
The more honest description would be: "The UC Santa Cruz police pepper-spraying and clubbing demonstrators who were pushing the police up against a tree and assaulting the officers." This is the SECOND protest in UCSC history that the police have had to use pepperspray on students. All the rest were peaceful. Oh, and to FCKITUP, call the Ghostbusters next time someone is breaking into your house or mugging you in the streets.

I've never seen a cop doing anything that looked like it would prevent or help someone being mugged or burgling... pretty much only see them protecting corporate institutions from citizens or hassling citizens in public places.
I am more afraid of being mugged/detained and hurt by a cop than by a citizen.

Then you RustyRedCaps, my friend, have your fears mixed up. Go and talk to a couple of the officers and see how human, nonviolent, and just plain nice they are. When outnumbered and targeted by a hostile crowd, the police act more professionally than any citizen would in that situation. But overall, no hostility = all good for everyone. Wouldn't you agree?

Cops I've talked to seem to take on the "I'm going to be an asshole to you and let you know that your problems/concerns are unimportant to me" attitude. From what I've seem of cops they are not nonviolent, human or nice as you put it. Let me explain: they seem to be itching to use violent force in situations that don't require it, they speak to each other in code language and wear dark shades as if to conceal their humanity, and are rude and dismissive if approached for any kind of help.

They speak to each other in code language and wear dark shades to protect themselves. They wouldn't want a person to know that they have a warrant for them without backup arriving first. And as far as the sunglasses, who DOESN'T wear them? This specifically is for their own safety so that you can see exactly what they're looking at. And what cops have you talked to, seriously? If it was at the tree-sitting, there were 5 agencies called up there, and bad vibes all around.

You're probably right, police only have our security and freedom in mind. Thank you for your well thought out reassurances.

Furthermore, how is taking a stance like "Your friends are in these trees and we've already confiscated most of their supplies, if you come close enough to send them provisions we will beat the shit out of you" professional? Isn't kind of like creating a situation where violence is inevitable? if so isn't that more childish than professional?
