George W. Pettigrew - Grave Marker Dedication - Congressional Cemetery - Presentation of Wreath

This was part of the grave marker dedication ceremony for 1ST LT George William Pettigrew, CSA, at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C. 19 June 2010. George W. Pettigrew of Brunswick, GA and the "Brunswick Riflemen" Co. A, 26th Georgia Infantry, CSA. Lt. Pettigrew was wounded in the left knee while making a charge on the Federal batteries near Hamilton's Crossing at the Battle of Fredericksburg. He stated after being asked if he was hurt, "Yes, but don't mind me, go on and take those batteries". He was later captured and removed to the Patent Office Hospital in Washington, D.C. Lt. Pettigrew steadfastly refused to receive medical treatment until all wounded, both friend and foe (Blue and Gray), were tended to. This unselfish behavior cost him his life. Seen here is the Maryland Division Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) Color Guard, the playing of Dixie by Maryland Division Commander-elect Jay Barringer, Nancy Carousi and Commander Bob Parker presented the new Maryland Division Color Guard Wreath,, and the playing of Amazing Grace by Jay Barringer.

Participating in the Maryland Division Color Guard were: Mitch Mroczka, Bob ("Beardless") Jones, and Scott MacMichael represented the Norris Camp. Commander Bob Parker, and Jim Dunbar represented the Norris Camp; Maryland Division Commander-elect Jay Barringer, Lou Fritz, Bill Fronk, Rob Jacobs, and Ray Rooks represented the Trimble Camp.
