A 37-year-old man was rescued early on Monday morning after he had been trapped in the mine shaft for 170 hours.

Peng Guohua was rescued inside a mine shaft in Mianyang city. After 8 hours of unceasing non-stop rescue efforts, he was sent to a local hospital on Tuesday morning.

Peng was working at a local mine site when the quake struck on Monday. The earthquake triggered a landslide, trapping him inside.

The mine shaft was about 10 meters deep, and 70 centimeters in diameter. He didn't have any food, water or electricity.

Peng used some tissues and his urine to sustain his life.

Since the mine shaft was in the mountain, it took rescuers more than 10 hours to get Peng to the foot of the mountain.

Peng is now in a stable condition.
