Take a tour of the Rose House in Milton, NY, and learn about its history. The Rose House is an innovative and unique "hospital diversion" program where individuals seeking temporary residential care/ respite care can stay for one to five nights. Services at The Rose House are designed to help "at risk" individuals to break the cycle of learned helplessness and recidivism through twenty-four hour peer support, self-advocacy education and self-help training. Guests are taught to use new recovery and relapse prevention skills and to move away from what are often long histories of cycling from home to crisis to hospital, year after year. The home-like environment is warm, friendly, safe and supportive.

Interventions at The Rose House are conducted by PEOPLe, Inc. peers who are trained to listen and validate issues or concerns in an empathic and loving manner. All of the peers in The Rose House have experienced similar crises in the past and their experience brings authentic strength and healing to the environment.

  • @TheLaughingponygina I'm quite sure that he's not talking about "learning about ones mental illness", most people who seek the service of such homes are of the very strong opinion that "mental illness" is not the biological "disease" that psychiatrists and the public like to claim it is for obvious purposes of subduing and drugging people who are declared to have it. People go to places like this to ESCAPE and HIDE from psychiatry and it's labels and drugs!

  • Have you read Robert Whitaker's Anatomy of An Epidemic?

  • I am very impressed ! It is my dream to be able to work/ volunteer at such a lovely and healthy transition into learning about ones Mental Illness to become informed and have awareness and true chance at recovery in a compassionate setting.. If I go and visit my daughter who lives near by there I would love to do a WRAP group or some thing with you. Until now I live in Alaska and hope to help more in housing and respite care.
