In July 2009 a small group of Americans (mostly from California, one from Houston) called the Friends of Yimbo (Kenya) visited a small village to dedicate a school library they helped fund and village people constructed with the help of a local contractor. See www.paloaltoonline.com/weekly/story.php?story_id=11326 . This is the welcome they received from the 301 students, dozen teachers and villagers and parents. The group is now working with villagers to bring running water to the village, establish a scholarship fund to help students pay for high school, and improve health care. (Taken with a FlipVid HD.)
