  • Didn't he also accompany singers like James Wiggins? ("Weary Heart Blues", "Frisco Bound Blues", etc.) I thought his legacy was more like 6 or 8 sides.

  • @KawhackitaRag Garnett played on the Wiggins recordings "My Lovin' Blues"/"Weary Heart Blues" (Paramount 12878) & "Forty Four Blues"/"Frisco Bound Blues" (Paramount 12860 & Broadway 5061) I don't think that I have any of these recordings.

  • Great to hear this one on YouTube, it's always been one of my personal 'barrelhouse piano' favorites, along with 'Chain 'em Down'. Many thanks!!!

  • For the past sixty years I have been trying to find out more about this remarkable pianist. It is amazing how much stuff has been uncovered about others, but this guy remains a mystery. And he's SO GOOD!!!

  • Thanks for the accompanying photos;they certainly add an atmosphere to these rare recordings.

  • I found Garnett's WWI draft card. His full name was Leroy Roscoe Garnett, and his date of birth was August 6, 1897. His occupation is given as "piano player", though he wasn't employed at the time of the registration. He's living in Chicago in 1917. The absolute identifier: it says that he is ineligible to serve because (of course) he's "totally blind."

  • The world sure was a different place in 1929. Wouldn't it be kind of ironic if this ended up on my ipod.
