I had heard other people sing this song and have always enjoyed it. I had no idea that it was a Eric Bogle song, and had no idea of its origins.

this is one of my all-time favourite Eric Bogle compositions - very poignant ! I had the great pleasure of meeting Eric in Palmerston North, NZ in November 2010 & swapping e-mails when returning to the UK............. sit back & listen to a classic !

This live performance recording could be considered the culmination of more than 35 years of many previous recordings beginning in 1974 on side A of Eric's 7 inch, 45rpm, with Sandy Hollow Line on Side B, from Kookaburra in Australia. The lyrics are much more streamlined and flow freer than they have on previous recordings. Its a superb version. Thanks for sharing. :-)
