In this tutorial, I will show you how to enable the Group Policy Editor in Windows 7. This applies to Home Premium, Home Basic, and starter editions. Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions DO NOT require this.

Basically, you just extract the installer, and run the installation. Then you can run the Group Policy Editor tool. Either go to the Start Menu and type in "gpedit.msc" in the search field or use the shortcut key (WIN + R) to bring up the Run command and typing "gpedit.msc"

Download the Installer Here:

  • man you are awesome it's work

    it's simple download, install, get a gpedit.msc

    again thx bro

  • thanks, it works for me, the gpedit.msc didn't located in system32, but in winsxs (search it!).

  • nope!it didnt work for me.

  • lol, what is the difference between starter and home basic?they both are same!come on mayne

  • @iSuckPCs tyvm this helped more than a fuckton of websites and especialy this stupid vid. thumb him up guys.

  • It does work but--it uses the .dll from XP so what you get is a version that is NOT complete for Win 7. It does not give options to change some things in IE9 for example. Such as turning off that annoying notification for addons slowing the browser.

  • @infinitypark003 Yes. Sorry for late reply.

  • If you're using x64: Copy the file: "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\gpedit.msc" to

    "C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc"

  • now I can change my bandwidth limit

  • at last I find the way how to add gpedit at my home premium 64bit.. thx bro...
