This is an introduction to the math support program at Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center. ERCLC is a California Charter School supporting homeschool families. Teaching high school math in a homeschool setting is a special challenge, since most parents are not able to teach the content of the courses themselves and learning math from the textbook alone is not very satisfactory. The solution has been to supplement the courses with videos, demonstrations using The Geometer's Sketchpad, graphing software, spreadsheet software, and other online tools.
A new trend in teaching is the "flipped classroom," where the primary content is presented at home and in-class time is spent working problems and conducting tutorials. Homeschool teaching operates on a very similar model.
[The lessons are published on DVD by http://www.mathwithoutborders.com and are available to other homeschoolers, homeschool charter schools, and anyone wanting to implement a flipped classroom.]
