@spacemange I like Trey, but I really dont get Phish. I tried. I really did. But I think they are a total ripoff of the Dead, just trying to be a little more funky and "deep" overall. I think they are really a third-rate jam band that caught some lucky breaks and got a great fanbase. That being said, I think all of the members are talented musicians and that they've written some good songs. But the covers, the antics, a lot of the jams...just nothing like the Dead for me.

@mjbrns241972 It's called being spun fucking cookies. you know jerry and brent (everyone else too but more so them) did a shit ton of blow constantly. i have seen videos where they say "we're going to take a snort break, we suggest you do the same" and no, they dont say short break. they were never bored you can tell that musically, but they were just high man, im sure you know whats its like to be on a shit ton of blow in front of a shit ton of people, imagine having them all staring at you...

@wakajawakka I'd have to kindly disagree with your assertion that Hendrix's playing is less technical than Jerry's playing. Is it because Jerry's playing of individual notes on a scale in one key sounds complex and Hendrix using screaming feedback seems less sophisticated or something? Sure, Hendrix's playing is 'visceral' but it can also be sublime like Little Wing or Angel. Playing those songs on guitar the way he did is not simple by any means, at least not for me, maybe you huh?

@tahoeclimber As a matter of fact I do. I'm just being realistic. Hendrix was great but he was great in a specific kind of way. Just like Jerry was great in a specific kind of way. I wouldn't expect Hendrix to play a rippin' solo on a bluegrass tune just like I wouldn't expect Jerry to shatter my soul on "Voodoo Chile" the way only Jimi can. 2 different styles that's all.

@MrGutentag69 Totally agree, I think Weir was/is so underrated. Appreciating his rhythm style is one of the reasons I love Phish too. But in no way am I comparing the bands, people really shouldn't.

Bob weir is a musical genius. Jerry is great but bobs style is soo original the interplay between these guys is remarkable. Phish is great as well but personally I like the dead more.
