United Nations, New York, 29 June 2009 - Noon briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General and the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.
Summer has finally arrived in New York City. Fewer UN male staff members will be sporting ties this season, and more staff will wear their national dress.
The "Cool UN" initiative has resumed at the United Nations Headquarters. It was first implemented in the summer of 2008. Due to its success, this year it will run for a period of three months.
During this time, therostat settings were raised five degrees in the Headquarters, from 70 to 75 degrees farenheit.
The programme aims to reduce CO2 emissions and increase awareness among staff. It also allows the agency to lead by example in the fight against climate change.
