Being Canadian, I can't really tell you how many Americans "hate" Mexicans. (Not a large fraction I would guess.) But I'm pretty sure Leonardo "Flaco" Jiménez, Baldemar Huerta (aka Freddy Fender), Augie Meyers and Doug Sahm could not be counted among their number. And I think many Americans love music fused from many cultures - like the unique musical genre born in San Antonio from Mexican, German, and American roots -- as much as we do here in Canada. Sorry if you don't.

@ShinjiNaku it has nothing to do with being mexican... and I for one American love the mexican culture, and given there is alot I don't "get" about it, it's still your culture... Tex-Mex music has been around for along time and I don't think it's going anywhere... not to mention.. Flaco is Mexican.. WTF?

@TomFan42 There are always going to be haters, but it's better to love and understand and help others understand. Latin music is very romantic and girls love it, at least mine does :)

@wcbriggs2000 Falco was born in San Antonio, but with mexican roots. Anyhow, does this matter? These guys, Doug, Augie, Freddy and Flaco are the "real fab four".

@jivo1100 Ahmen to that! I would love to see future posts limited to comments on the song and the band. I think there have been more than enough responses to shijinaku.

lovely. but was it not joe ely composed iy?

@hiline2009
No Butch Hancock wrote it, although Joe Ely was the first to recorded it. Butch's long time friends -- and members of The Flatlanders with him -- Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore have both recorded Butch's songs. I love Jimmie's recording of My Mind's got a Mind of its Own, which I believe was also written Butch Hancock.
