What is the advantage of backtesting? Where do you start? Guppy recommends first looking for certain trade pattern break outs. Identifying these sets your strategy. Then focus on short term backtesting individual stocks. Not the entire market. Look for compatibility over no more than 12 months of data. Use paper trading with a particular set of processes or opportunities that suit you exactly. Compare false signals versus valid signals. This type of backtesting is the most effective relative to current circumstances.
