With 19 ranks of reeds, Albi cathedral has an incomparable selection of Trompette variations for the organist to choose from. The sound is as orchestral as a Baroque organ can be . . .

This sounds like Mozart and is the Quartetto by the French composer Jean-Jacques Beauvarlet-Charpentier played by the resident organist since 1968, Mary Prat-Molinier.

  • That's a really interesting observation! There's something nasal about this that I could not put my finger on - but also the temperament adds to the nasality.

  • That's a very unusual sound. Something like that in an American setting would be awful, but the resonance you get in Albi really makes it pretty.

  • I'm not hearing a trompette in this. More like a Cornet and something like a Cromorne possibly?
