A picture slideshow.

Ashiko drum played in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Americas, also in Eastern Cuba. It is known and played during carnivals and street parades called "Comparsas".

Some consider the "Ashiko" to be male and the "Djembe" female.

  • @cymande32 Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

  • @dobalena1. The original version was released in 1975 with a group from Ghana named Hedzoleh. The album title is "The Boy's Doin' It". I bought it about 6 months ago. It has about 4 solid songs which are my favorite. It was the party album of the time and Hedzoleh was a solid group. Hugh Masekela lived in Ghana for a while in the 70's when he left South Africa.

The album title in itself is great. You'll like songs like, 'Excuse Me Baby' and 'A Person Is A Sometime Thing'.

  • @cymande32 What is the original version? What album, what group, when was it released, etc.?

  • Where did this info about Ashiko drums come from?

  • Nooooo the original is better.

  • i

    like.

    thanks

  • Nice beat. A couple of my first jobs were for clothing stores and they used to play music that sounds like this. Made the day interesting and go by fast.

    Nice job and very colorful

    :-)
