More alarmingly, the stress created during unemployment not only affects the individual, it alters or ends their career path and brings uncertainty and anxiety to their family. The worst aspect unemployment is the fear involved. Not the fear that galvanises you into action, but the paralysing sort. This is probably why many people engage in fruitless activities such as computer gaming. It stops you facing problems in life that need to be tackled. Normally activity helps but computer gaming is different.

Unemployment can lead to activity that prevents you from finding a job. Recreation is good but can become a full-time occupation. Computer gaming is often described as addictive but enjoyable way to ruin your life. Internally it can be stressful and the things you do are often hard work. Unemployment can be productive. It can be an opportunity to study and learn new skills. Or learn about the world & develop an understanding that's difficult in the rat race.
