Alrighty, firstly, for all the Noobs watching, it's very hazardous to go fight any boss with tons of pikmin, espcially one that crushes them, and as was shown, you did split them up, but it can suffice rather well with between 10 and 15 pikmin.
Nevertheless, I applaud your amazing management skills with the 50 yellows, and not losing a single one. Great Job! :)
But as I've said, it'd be best to take a small team to closely watch for their demise, in hopes that it wont happen.
