  • Poor review. Why does there need to be a story mode in a fighting game? This isn't Final Fantasy. The gameplay is quick but deep with lighting reflexes needed. You didn't even mention the counter system. Each character has a special ability as well. I'm still playing this game to this day. Great game for one player and parties. Overlooked and misunderstood. Most of your reviews are spot on, but this one missed the mark. Your omission of key facts shows how little you actually played this game.

  • I never said that I wanted a deep storyline but I do want something a little more than Mad Magazine: The Videogame when it comes to character design. Example: Twisted Metal... or even Punch Out. Nothing there is brilliant or even has any real originality but then it's at least fun to play as those characters as they are a little more interesting. All in all, not a big deal, but when the game is sitting on the fence like this one was to me, it didn't help, hence the brief mention.

  • So because Punch Out is that extra notch above mediocrity, it's that much better? You ever played Contra for the NES? The character design of Bill Rizer is nothing but a rip off of every action movie. Add to that the cover was stolen from Predator. But does that make the game any better or worse? No, because you're playing it for the gameplay, not for character design. Why character design is a big deal for you in fighting games is odd IMO. Even Ryu of SF2 is nothing but a shoto clone.

  • My instant gut reaction:

FB: Eh, kind of amusing, but to be pushing this much ironic attitude, they really better be backing it up with something (which in my opinion, they don't).

Contra, SF, etc: Eh, basic style characters. I wonder what's up with this game.

FB strikes me with the developers trying too hard, transparent focus testing, and lame jokes that I'm tired of.

Not that it matters much when the gameplay is the most important. This really isn't that big of a deal to me.

  • I believe I alluded to the counter system when I spoke about how it was like rock paper scissors. Yeah, that's nice, but then that's all there is. It's a one trick pony with not that much to talk about. It's a fun party game sure, but I don't see the longevity. I spent a few good hours with this game but I was just not personally impressed.

  • How can you do entire Facebreaker review and not utter the words "Ready 2 Rumble", as this game is clearly inspired by that more than Punch-Out.

  • Haven't played it.
