  • You should never start a veteran Triumph by pedalling off on the move. It puts a huge strain on the bottom bracket area of the frame. The pedals are for starting on the stand to warm up and for light pedal assistance uphill. Staring before riding is done by run and bump as per the original Triumph instructions

  • @scottflyingsquirrel - advice noted but I'm not likely to change a habit formed 40 years ago. So far so good - no harm to pedalling gear or btm bracket. Tough as old nails.

  • @scottflyingsquirrel In Australia at least, the vast majority of "pedallers" are started just like this. I've just returned from the latest National Veteran Motorcycle rally held in Kingaroy, Queensland - usual format with around 500 km of riding over 5 days, with any number of pedal starts done by dozens of riders on the rally. I've been attending these rallies for years and have never heard of a bottom bracket breaking. Pedals yes - but then you fit another pedal. Beats run and bump starting!

  • Unreal....thanks for posting , it's a beautiful peace of work must be fun to ride.
