Note, June 20/09: I have updated the title to reflect Ustad Ali Akbar Khan's recent passing away. My condolences go out to his family, students and loved ones.

Recorded onto VHS tape (regrettably, on extended play speed) in the early 90s. Enjoy!

  • What is the aaroah and Aavroah of this raga? Very melodious raga. Thanks

  • @kjaan

I do not know. Perhaps, some student of Khansahib may be able to post it here?

  • This is a rare collection as we see both late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Dyanesh Khan.

They are both playing raag Chandranandan exquisitely. I could listen to Khan Shaheb almost 16 hours and I wouldn't get bored. He was amazing.

Thank you for posting this rare video.

  • How did Dhyanesh Khan pass away?

  • On Monday, November 21, (1983?) Ustad Ali Akbar Khan recorded Rag Chandranandan, together with Ustad Alla Rakha, at the Theatre au Rond Point in Paris. In my opinion this was the greatest rendering of this extraordinary beautiful rag; its duration was some 50 minutes and I think it was France Musique recording it at the time and broadcasting it later, at a date I cannot identify. I was lucky enough to catch some of it on tape, which unfortutely has deteriorated since.

    Anybody knows about this ?

  • I've been drawn to this Rag as well by the CD "Ali Akbar Khan; Traditional Indian Music". I wanted to find out more—to start guiding me on what I can get by ear—but, I couldn't find this Rag listed on the ITC or AACM websites. On Steve Oda's website I just found this; "[Chandranandan is] ...by Maestro Ali Akbar Khansahib... ...combines four ragas: Malkauns, Chandrakauns, Nandakauns and Kaushi Kanara." Now I'm off to understand those Ragas.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this. True gem. Bliss and Enlightenment awaits you.

  • @QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO Clealy you yourself have degraded your standards by launching into a rather pretentious personal attack on me, rather than attempting to counter my observations on the melody, with a musical analysis. This leads me to conclude that your knowledge on the matter of music is scanty at best.i urge you to use youtube as a medium to explore different artists and then conclude with a total understanding-instead of grudging me-why dont u listen to Amjad and then get back to me

  • This is fantastic, thank you so much!
