Sure it's easy for Tibbets to defend his actions using all kinds of excuses... because his actions consisted of pushing a button. He never even SAW his "enemy". My point is not even a person with no conscience like Tibbets would be able to kill as many helpless women, children and babies as he did if it means going down there and slaughtering them by hand with blood running down his hands and people begging for mercy. But he never even got to see his victims... makes it all so much cleaner...
People don't seem to understand the concept of war. If you have been attacked and the attack is unwarranted, and the enemy has no intention of stopping attacks, I'm sorry but war is the only way of protection. The atomic bomb, though ugly, just like war, ended the war with Japan quickly and disallowed it from spanning out unnecessarily.
Remember Pearl Harbor. The Japanese started it.
