As if 1 guy would use up ALL the air in the vault in a single night, there would be some Health and Safety clause which would mean that there would have to be enough for 1 person to survive in their for a night or something like that.

I wondered what happened to that gas for quite some time, but as it turns out, this episode was originally made BEFORE City Of Fire, so the oxyhydnite gas hasn't actually been invented yet.
The episode order was clearly revised at some point (I don't know why), and so that made for a few discrepancies like this in the series.
