This is one of the more emotional songs I've ever written. I lost two of my closest uncles to cancer in a five month period, one of them on January 6 of 2000.

Of course around this time people are still wishing one another 'happy new year.' As people kept wishing me 'happy new year', especially at work, I kept thinking to myself, 'Is this really going to be a happy new year?' Or is this simply a yearly cliche? Because every year has its ups and downs. And when you lose a loved one to start off the new year, how happy is it really going to be? As I kept wrestling with these emotions, I started writing them down, no music, just words, simple thoughts. That's when I realized I could actually make a song out of this.

When you first hear the song, you might wonder why the song has an up tempo beat and somber lyrics. That's a reflection of the mixed emotions I was going through when I wrote this song...Somber lyrics because of obviously having lost two close relatives, and an up tempo beat because I was happy that my uncles were no longer suffering from that dreaded disease.

To my late uncles Manuel & Joe, I love you; I miss you. I miss the times when you'd come down from Canada to spend summer with us. You'll never ever be forgotten!
