To celebrate my 50th birthday, I'm raising $50,000 in 50 days for WriteGirl, and I need your help to make it happen! Go to http://indiegogo.com/50-for-50 for info and to donate.
WriteGirl is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Los Angeles dedicated to turning high school girls into strong, confident women by teaching them writing and communications skills. The girls are matched with professional women writers who meet them for weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions, and there are monthly group workshops in all aspects of creative writing taught by leading women in their fields.
For 10 years, WriteGirl has had a staggering success rate for girls in underserved areas of L.A., and been instrumental in getting them through high school and into colleges via intensive prep and guidance with the applications and grants processes. And the girls LOVE the program: they love learning to express themselves, they love working with their mentors, they love the programming and the opportunities. It's written in their faces at events, and in their work, published each year in beautiful anthologies.
