usually leads to loss of limbs and major head injury. Sure they had mines in WWII but it wasn't the main tool or only tool of the enemy. IED's probably out number the mines of WWII 100 to 1 and thats why TBI is so high.

B. maybe not as high tech as today but we really haven't come to much further in the studies of the brain since the 1940's, thats not to say we didn't come a long way its just to say we have hit a lot of road blocks along the way being the brain is so delicate which makes the discoveries and/or advancements go really slow. MRI has helped 10 fold but has done little for cures. TBI is very high in Iraq, you have to remember the enemies main tool are IED's, RPG's and Trip wire so that , CONT>

mmwild,
The TBI stats vary a bit but not by much however you bring up a good point about diagnosis however you really dont need such advanced technology to diagnosis it. Person gets half thier skull cap blown off, person cant talk, coma, brain swelling and when they wake they just smile at everything he or she looks at, person can no longer walk or has seizures... Even in WWII they had the tech to diagnosis it, CONT>

What I mean is, do you think that there were thousands of soldiers in WWII and Vietnam who suffered from TBI and were never diagnosed? I think with today's advances in the field of traumatic brain injury, it is highly likely that we can better diagnose the injuries than we could back then. Overall, it seems you and I both agree that the whole war situation is a mess.
