MALTON Lincoln Alexander high school LOCKDOWN (October 30, 2008)
As Peel Regional Council was debating opening a Youth drop-in centre at Malton Community Center (Mississauga), Councillor Eve Adams announced that "as we speak" a high school in her area was in lock-down. These regional councillors then debated for over an hour before deciding to send the issue BACK to the City of Mississauga for debate.
Over the weekend in the Toronto Star article, "Brampton wrestles with teen solitudes" it states, "'The lack of youth services is seen as an aggravating factor. "There's no place for young people to hang out and feel safe,' goes the refrain"
As far back as November 14, 1994, Peel Regional Police reported on a youth community summit that year. Yes, 1994. The report urges, "Youth drop-in centres be created to provide safe and healthy `hang outs for young people, with such centres to be youth-driven and located where youth congregate such as shopping malls;"
The report continues:
"A multi-disciplinary sub-committee of the Task Force should develop a youth strategy targeted at youth most at risk"
On October 20, 2008 Mississauga mayor and councillors STILL haven't gotten around to cooperating with Peel Region on youth drop-in centers.
The same Peel Police 1994 report states that "A process of accountability and evaluation should be built into programs to ensure achievement of goals and cost-effectiveness."
Accountability and Evaluation? Where? Mississauga isn't strong on "accountability and evaluation" although they are masters at trumpeting their Trust, Quality and Excellence!
I remember this, i had to wait 6 hours in the community center gym. It really sucked.

@SnipeSpace Thanks for your comment.
I'm researching the treatment of youth/citizens by City Staff at Malton Community Centre. Malton Community Centre has had more bans and arrests than any place else in City of Mississauga (by usage).
I've personally witnessed (black) youth prevented from entering Malton Community Centre by security trying to get into a Youth input meeting back in March 2008.
I'm interested in hearing from anyone who's been banned/arrested and tried to file a complaint.

Thanks for these videos. A little hard to follow, but the information you include in the side panel usually clears things up!

Hi there, Chriscrunch2.
Thanks for your note. I'm still new at producing videos. I'd be the first to agree that this video is hard to follow. Just after a week up, I was tempted to redo it.
Last thanks for giving me an opportunity to add that I am researching treatment of Youth/citizens at Malton Community Centre and would be greatly interested in hearing from anyone who's been banned, issued trespass or arrested by City of Mississauga security guards at this facility.
