Early banjo player Hezekiah Urastus Anderton recorded in the Edison Black Maria, 1894.

Hezekiah is playing 2 tunes by his idol Frank B. Converse. The Riverside Schottische and The Melrose Polka can be found in the Analytical Banjo Method, published in 1886.

Hezekiah loved dance tunes. He loved parties of every kind. He was known to walk 10 miles on just the rumor of a party.

  • its fake. film style is to made up. also i looked on your channel, the rest are fake as well. good playing, just stop lying to people wtf man

  • @njn1219 Here's the deal, njn: It so obvious that this a modern video, that it's stupid even to point it out. The tune is correct, the banjo is original, the style is period, so why not video it in a "period" fashion? It's just a fun project, and to take offense is kind of silly.

  • I would'nt have believed this if I had'nt seen it with me own eyes!

  • @newagemisfit the truth shall set you free!

  • Is this from 1894 or 84?!?!?

  • @metalisbetter1o00 It was written in 1884 but videotaped in 1894.

  • This video is contemporary. Film and sound recordings in the late 19th century didn't have this quality.

The first sound recording ever made in 1860 was "Au Clair de la Lune" recorded by Edouard-Leon Scott and it sounded barely intelligible.

Edison recorded "Mary had a little lamb" in 1927 and sounded better but still far from this.

Bringing old music back is nice but don't fool people telling them it's original footage.

  • Hezekiah, may you always be remembered in this remarkably well preserved footage!
