Asian elephant calves Jade (2-1/2 years old) and Maliha (3 years old) are having a splashing good time swimming in the "big kids" pool at River's Edge. Maliha's mother Ellie supervises and grazes while the kids play. Like most elephants, these youngsters love the water. Once in awhile, Ellie joins them for a swim, too.
Asian elephants are an endangered species. Fewer than 35,000 are left in the wild. To learn more about elephants at the Zoo and in the wild, visit www.stlzoo.org/elephants.
