In this video I rant about a letter I got in the mail that is part of a poetry scam from famouspoets.com. I value the poems I write and I don't appreciate those who try and take advantage of my hard work. I just had to make a video about this!

I think i like how you managed not to take their bate. It seems they updated their tactics since i've gone through the process.
As to why people do that, it's because it's a quick way to get money. If i know the process right they had a 20 line limit. the person who got the prize had WAY more. The poem was art-wannabe-gibberish and to top it off, the s.c. "author" didn't seem to know how to read "her own" written words.
To those who got scam let me tell you something. Maybe you've been lied. Maybe you've been scammed. You thought you were good. and now was just a lie. But i tell you something Dont give up! Keep writing!
These poetry conventions and poetry clubs are not scams.Nothing is free in life and the money spent brings a great deal in return.Poetry is a wonderful hobby and more importantly is an art form that should be shared and appreciated. There are very few newspapers publishing poetry. The poetry anthologies are one of the ways to get known. The only other way is to publish your own book.I've been an American poet for over 40 years.Google me at L.M.Gasrel Black the International Poetry Hall Of Fame.
I just wanted to let all of you skeptical poets who missed out on a fantastic opportunity know that I went to the Famous Poets convention in Reno in 2004 and had the time of my life.I not only enjoyed the entertainment and the champagne welcoming party but I also attended all of the poetry couses offered and made many new poet friends. My only regret is that because of family obligations I have been unable to attend any more conventions. My poems have been published and read world-wide.I'm famous!
I submitted three poems to a scam site and got the same things, but it was from a different poetry site. (poetry . com) I fell for it and authorized the use of my poem in the book and then I got another one saying that I got a whole page for a different poem and so I wrote one and authorized it. Well, I found out that it was a scam a few weeks after and today I went to delete the other two poems that weren't authorized, but to my surprise they don't have a delete option. So I went through and
edited them and put stupid poems in thier place and I changed author name to cabby. Then after you submit it says you have to authorize the use of the poem and all edits were allowed to be looked at by the staff. So, pretty much if they wanted to they could still retrieve my old poems from the scripting and use it. so I just hope they don't because they are two of my best poems :(
As of November 2006, there is no verifiable report of any successful legal action being taken against the company for alleged fraud. According to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's Writer Beware web site, however, the Maryland Attorney General's Office is interested in hearing from writers who have had dealings with the International Library of Poetry. ((Damn it, I submitted in a poem! :( Hope it helps* :(
