In this video I rant about a letter I got in the mail that is part of a poetry scam from famouspoets.com. I value the poems I write and I don't appreciate those who try and take advantage of my hard work. I just had to make a video about this!
This happened to me when I was 12. I was like...there is no way this is true. I even grew up with people who thought they were award-winning writers because of this stupid scam. Had to break it to them.
uggggg i got a letter a few days ago saying that i was officially made it to the next round in an online poetry contest i entered. and they were going to publish my poem in their book. but they said that i had 2 pay a "discount" price of their booK for $39.95. shudnt the copy be free? but no. i looked on the web and found a hundred of people who got the same letter and never got the book. why shud i pay to win? sutpid scammers at The america library of poetry. y do they do this to people?
I think i like how you managed not to take their bate. It seems they updated their tactics since i've gone through the process.
As to why people do that, it's because it's a quick way to get money. If i know the process right they had a 20 line limit. the person who got the prize had WAY more. The poem was art-wannabe-gibberish and to top it off, the s.c. "author" didn't seem to know how to read "her own" written words.
These poetry conventions and poetry clubs are not scams.Nothing is free in life and the money spent brings a great deal in return.Poetry is a wonderful hobby and more importantly is an art form that should be shared and appreciated. There are very few newspapers publishing poetry. The poetry anthologies are one of the ways to get known. The only other way is to publish your own book.I've been an American poet for over 40 years.Google me at L.M.Gasrel Black the International Poetry Hall Of Fame.
I just wanted to let all of you skeptical poets who missed out on a fantastic opportunity know that I went to the Famous Poets convention in Reno in 2004 and had the time of my life.I not only enjoyed the entertainment and the champagne welcoming party but I also attended all of the poetry couses offered and made many new poet friends. My only regret is that because of family obligations I have been unable to attend any more conventions. My poems have been published and read world-wide.I'm famous!

Make sure you already wrote the poem on your book or note book or anywhere..
Signaturize it.
Make a date when you wrote it!
and claim the rights for it..
I wrote my poems BOTH book and COMPUTER and the internet... but dont be sad if you get sad
I know you're a good poet as i am.
We're all are!
