  • I finally got to listen to this video, Monty. I read John Calvin's letter to the King of France. While I am not overly familiar with Roman Catholicism, I know enough about it to know that I want nothing to do with it. Last year, the Pope came to Britain on a state visit, which means that we paid the tab. It caused a stink. They tried to say it was a "state" visit, but somehow Vatican State doesn't quite sit well with we English. They are Roman Catholic papists after all and there is history.

  • didactic as usual ...great work...

  • Excellent lecture. *Have read the Institutes in full. Calvin, spiritually speaking according to the mind of Christ, is genius. (I'm not saying he's perfect and sets forth all -- but the man is genius in his clarity of vision of the Sovereignty of God and gifts of bold, concise, clear, even cutting expository.) Thanks again. God bless.

  • *There is no right to a secular state. Rather the Kingdom of Jesus Christ is to come by the anointing of the Holy Spirit bearing rule. The ideal is for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ to come and the State to be eliminated. This, actually, is what happened on the Day of Pentecost --and is revealed in the two witnesses also. When the Kingdom comes fully, all offices and State cease. All is by the anointing. Anointing is by the Word. Doctrine must produce anointing and power. Jesus is KING.

  • This is excellent so far in the lecture. (9:00 mark). Calvin is correct in asserting that all those in authority MUST be ministers of God and their duty is the advance of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Romans 13 is vastly misunderstood today. Persons believe that heretics and apostates and unbelievers can hold Romans 13 Authority. This is impossible. God is the Romans 13 Authority, and only the Church consisting of true believers born of God's Spirit can be ministers of God.

  • OK, the first thing that you flashed is that the Bible alone is the Word of God. Well, Jesus Christ Himself is the Word of God. Jesus is God. Jesus is Spirit. Jesus is living in me. The reason I can receive revelation of the Word of God is because I have seen Jesus by revelation in my heart by the Spirit -- and I have the "Translator" of the Word, the Spirit, living in me, so I can hear the Word. The Word is alive. The Spirit of the Word -- Jesus -- is the Word too. :)

  • No regenerated believer in the Lord Jesus Christ who has any sense of history can or should deny that the Reformation was of God.

In the midst of the upheval of the Renaissance and early days of the Counter-Reformation, Jean Cauvin eventually found a safe haven in XVI Century Geneva, but his writings--often insightful--are controversial to this day on a number of points with respect to the Scriptures.

The Holy Bible, of course, must remain the final authority for every sincere Christian.

  • Ja, disturbing the peace - a great sin in today's churches. I can't believe you said it exactly as it is at the 17:15 - 18:12 mark. LOL

"Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And WE BELIEVE AND ARE SURE that thou art THAT Christ, the Son of the living God." - John 6:68-69

People who hold to lordship salvation can never be sure ..... of anything!

Page 7-8 of the Institutes had me in stitches.

  • Great stuff!
