"Romance may be taken as Debussy's farewell to the genre. Orthodox elements include the regularly pulsing accompaniment and the symmetrical phrasing. Less orthodox is the harmony: before the final major triad there is only one perfect cadence in the whole song, on the word 'odorante' elsewhere cadences are continually interrupted. This too was a sign of things to come."

L'âme évaporée et souffrante,
l'âme douce, l'âme odorante
des lis divins que j'ai cueillis
dans le jardin de ta pensée,
où donc les vents l'ont-ils chassée,
cette âme adorable des lis ?
N'est-il plus un parfum qui reste
de la suavité céleste
des jours où tu m'enveloppais

The vanishing and suffering soul,
the sweet soul, the fragrant soul
of divine lilies that I have picked
in the garden of your thoughts,
where, then, have the winds chased it,
this charming soul of the lilies?
is there no longer a perfume that remains
of the celestial sweetness
of the days when you enveloped me
in a supernatural haze,
made of hope, of faithful love,
of bliss and of peace?

For the record, the actual piece by Claude Debussy is called "Romance." It is not named by the first words of the piece.

@LayLink @LayLink hum, tu m'étonnes - sans être musicien, je vais essayer de relever le défi... (je connais pas trop m jackson, bien que ça soit mon époque)

pour ce qui est des chanteuses classiques qui s'essaient à la pop, il y a des contre-exemples - tu connais p-ê cathy berberian ?... elle a magnifiquement restitué la frénésie du rock dans sa version de "ticket to ride" (je crois que je peux pas copier l'adresse url... mais ça se trouve facile) ;-)

@LayLink ma foi, je me demande comment tu es tombé sur cette page - ça n'a rien à voir avec "final fantasy", pour sûr !...

sur la diction, tu n'as pas tort : on comprend pas grand-chose - je crois que c'est une règle générale du chant classique... moi, toutes façons, je connais le texte par coeur, c'est une de mes mélodies préférées - en plus, j'ai toujours eu un problème pour comprendre les paroles des chansons, que ça soit gainsbourg ou sylvie vartan, la musique interfère... :-)
