Galloway in the south west of Scotland remains pretty well undiscovered by the holidaymakers who head north when they cross the border.
However, the people who have discovered Galloway return year after year for the peace and tranquility, rolling fields, rugged coastline and the ancient history of the Shire.
There were people living in Galloway before much of Scotland became inhabited, and the area is dotted with stone circles and ancient monuments.
There is lots for the holidaymakers to do, walking, fishing, cycling, shooting or just relaxing.
Who needs to travel abroad?
Most of these pictures were taken in the Machars or close by.

  • Great video, but wonder why the back music was amazing grace, when you have the superb "Bonnie Galloway" that would have just linked the whole thing together.

  • wha was the eejit standing below the wickermans baws ???

  • Yes they're bagpipes baby, and the tune as you'll probably know is Amazing Grace. It's been known to make grown men cry. You need a very healthy set of lungs to play the bagpipes, you can blow your heart out and barely get a peep lol. I think you should post a vid of it and I'll put in my faves just for you.

  • If you feel like it's your home then it is.

  • wow i love the scenery. the bagpipes (is that what you call them?) are magnificent. i have always loved listening to them. This reminds me of a pipe band that I videotaped at my brother's graduation. I was more captivated by the band moreso than my brother graduating. I should post a video of it.

  • its a weird feeling i get when i see pictures of my ancestor's homeland its almost a feeling a deja vu like in a past life i was there when i look at the sky in the pics theres just some different about the sky there and i've seen it in my dreams as a child long before i ever seen images of it in a book or on the pc call me crazy if you want but thats my home even if i have never been there i feel strong ties to the land and the people its kinda like i feel like i belong back home!!! : )
