It's not the singing that's gone downhill, it's the songwriting.  This is a most welcome exception, a fresh approach and beautifully performed. Maybe if fans stopped yammering about the good old days - what are you, 60? - and the band wasn't so seemingly hell-bent on popularity they could achieve even more new glories.
