This is the same old version, but I just wanted to make this video and share with y'all how I've been working hard on the speed, trying to get a little faster. As you can see, if you compare this video with my old Cumberland Gap videos, it did improve a little bit. Speed comes natural, but practice helps and I believe you have to push it a little. Yes, it is frustrating, it's a lot easier to remain accurate at a lower pace, however, just try picking faster every now and then and you will get used to it. I've been trying to improve my speed a little, but only if I keep the accuracy too. Speed without accuracy, well, it's just a bunch of half-ass notes and chords, better off playing slower, but accurate. But I've been pushing myself a little.

Cumberland Gap is one of my favorite tunes and I really enjoy picking it. Everytime I grab my banjo, Cumberland Gap is usually the firs tune I pick. Sometimes I'm watching TV and I'm picking Cumberland Gap without my fingerpicks, just keeping it low. The thing is, I can't have enough of it! So naturally, after months, it's the tune I'm most confident picking so far.

But you can't get hooked to one tune only, otherwise you won't be able to learn others. So right now, I'm working on "Down The Road" right now (barely started), while on the side, I'm improving speed and accuracy on the songs Dixie and Doin' My Time.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

  • eh boy - you from cumberland?

  • @shunyata81 No, Mississippi. But I wouldn't mind living near Cumberland Gap, it's a very beautiful place and its historical importance is unimaginable.

  • @mrtedmiester Ha ha lol, that would be too many banjo heads to paint at once, and it wouldn't be cheap either! It's early to say how much they will cost, but considering that banjo heads are not cheap and all the meticulous work involved (one little mistake and I lose the banjo head), and that they look very good and are not available anywhere else, I would say anywhere between $90 to $130 - something around 100 bucks, American.

  • @MSfeller i was just kidding. what kind of price are we talkin? and yes boston is great

  • @mrtedmiester Oh and by the way, the Confederate banjo heads I make nowadays are way better looking than the one you see in this video, they have 13 stars and are done more neatly. That there was the very first one I ever painted, back then I didn't even know how to remove the banjo head, I remember painting it with the head still on the banjo! Nowadays I know a lot more than what I used to back then. You can see how the new banjo heads I make look like on my Pretty Polly video, but glossy.

  • @mrtedmiester Lol, do you mean 10 banjo heads? That would be a pretty big order, if I understood correctly. My banjo heads would all come with an extra dose of Confederacy, it don't get more Rebel than me here, hoss! I ain't never been to Boston, but I find it to be a very interesting place and I like how Irish it is up there, it's a city of great character in my opinion and I would be glad to ship them over yonder.

  • @MSfeller thats sick. ill take 10 with extra dose of confederacy, even though im from boston

  • @mrtedmiester I will make a new one next month. If the banjo head is perfect enough to be sold, I will put it for sale on eBay. Since I expect the Confederate banjo heads to be sold mostly to customers back home (I live in Scotland now), I have to come up with shipping solutions, so that it won't raise the price of it too much and still leave me some room for profit. I'll make a 11", high crown banjo head for starters, but I might make custom measurements too. I'll let you know, bud.
