  • I can never stop uncovering facets of this band that still delight me. One of a few group of musicians that their songs have remained, no........ grown with me and are still sounding as fresh as ever, like a brand new painting box.

  • an ISB fan for 40 plus years and had never head this utopian piece until this year. Haunting version ! I hope one day Licorice will return from being missing or whereever she has been for 30 years and I can hear original ISB with Rose and Licorice just one more time,

  • Heard Mike do this many years ago at the Kings Arms Allendale with a brilliant percussionist who,s name I am ashamed to admit I have forgotten it was ethereal ! I always thought that it was not only a homage to Robin but a genuine sadness at the ending of the road for the band . Thanks Mike .

  • @thesyd1975 It's really sweet to think it was written for Leaf, but actually Mike wrote it for Robin. "You played your strings like they led to the truth" Saw the famous Leaf on stage in the Albert Hall in 1969. That;s when I thought "this band is for me"

  • @tjoris51 i recognize both mike's voice in the foreground and robin's in the background, and yes this is a tiny bit softer than their usual style but still recognizable (to me).

  • Thanks a lot for posting this!!!

  • Ever since I found this song, it haunts my dreams night and day.. so incredibly sad and beautiful! "You played your strings like they led to truth, sang your words like clear spring light, Lets do it one more time and we'll keep the fire going, bright sunshine in darkest night"

  • ISB Part of the soundtrack of my life!

  • Magical when they performed - so many songs they produced then -

Saw Robin do solo in nyc 90

    Ancient Scottish tales

  • Oh yes. that was Beautiful. Thanks for the background info/stories ppl :)

Do you mind if I leave a link for my own ISB version of 'Back In The 1960s' - please?

  • So much warmth and beauty in the music. I remember spending 32/6d on a concert ticket for the Festival Hall and was sat about 3 rows back. It must have been 1969- I was enthralled for a couple of hours and can remember it so well. They performed a huge range of songs, but it was the fun and enjoyment in songs like "Queen Juanita and Her Fisherman Lover" that has stayed with me!

  • @cicodelico This song was actually recorded in 1974,in the studio for the john peel show, one of there last as they broke up that year, seemingly Mike Heron wrote it about there dog Leaf who died,Leaf is pictured on the front of the Hangmans album from 1968.
