HAPI Drum from http://HapiTones.com recorded in the new Integral Scale, key of E, also with Hang Drum and the Array Mbira featuring Patrick Hadley of Array Instruments http://www.thearraymbira.com No effects are used on the Hapi Drum or Hang Drum, just a touch of reverb..... the monkeys love reverb! The Array Mbira's signal was run through an AdranaLinn 3 processor for sync'd filter effects and delays.

The unique tone of the HAPI (hand activated percussion instrument) is created by a tuned vibrating steel tongue. The concept is similar to a wooden tongue drum. When a tongue is quickly and lightly struck with the finger or mallet it vibrates creating sound waves. We have added dampening of the notes and drum body to keep the drum from becoming discordant and "ringy". This technique is built into each drum and provides excellent resonance while supplying the correct amount of dampening. By placing low notes next to the appropriate higher notes we achieve multiple harmonics. Their vibrations create desirable overtones which compliment the timbre of the tone. Players of the Hang, Tank, Hank, and Tongue Drums will enjoy playing a HAPI. Thanks for watching! Hapi Drum and Hang Drum played by John Pascuzzi, Array Mbira played by Patrick Hadley.

  • Dude you are very passionate about your music. . . I enjoy it very much!!!What kind of interface are you using!!ur Fan kenny;D

  • @kennyz6979 Thanks very much, Kenny! The Array mbira (not played by me in this video) has piezo pickup wire built in, so goes straight into the recording interface, a contact mic was used on the Hang, and the Hapi Drum was mic'd with microphones, all going into an m-audio delta 1010 interface, and then to Cubase for the DAW. and the video was edited with Sony Vegas.

  • I did the same thing Dave, put it on a loop and grabed a didge. about 30 minutes later all was good in the world.

  • Glad you guys are having some fun with it..... yeah, it just loves a little E didge mixed in :)

  • While listening, I started humming and became one with the music.... Gorgeous.

  • Thank you!
