Well you don't get introduced to Zoe with a fight, she just learns that early on to teach you the combat mechanics. As for April, it set the scene well and showed you that now she's a soldier, so her introduction suited her.

Why is it that they introduce you to each new character with a fight? You learn fighting with Zoe very early, and both April and Kian start off in combat.
