Shawn Scribner with Smartronix discusses how you should prepare for a Job Fair.

I think the most common mistakes job seekers make at a job fair is, number one, not necessarily being prepared to tell us what they're looking for in their next career move. They certainly come to us asking what opportunities we have available. But we want them to sell themselves to us, as to what they are doing now, or what they're looking to do so that we can gauge whether it's a good fit for the company or not. Also another huge mistake I see is people not sending us electronic versions of their resume right away when they get home or back to their office. That gives us the edge to send those around immediately to interested hiring managers and while they're still hot, and that way we don't lose track of them.

What are the most common mistakes that you see people make on their resume?

On the resume, I think the most common mistakes that they do is they'll list their job duties -- everybody has the format pretty good at listing their job duties, what they do and bulleting everything. But, the biggest thing that I like to see is accomplishments. What did you do in that job, what changes did you help make, what improvements did you make and what impact did you have while you were there at that job.

Do you have any recommendations for someone who's having difficulty finding a job and making a connection at the job fair?

Yeah, absolutely. I think the most important thing that you can do is network, network, network. Use social media that's out there, find out who the HR and recruiting people are in the organizations you're interested in working for. Try to contact them directly, let them know you're gonna be at the job fair, if you've met them at the job fair and you can always establish links to them through social networking as well.
