@SkateNater I have to Comfirm Totally that I think she has perfectly amazing Legato....Here is one for everyone to give a Listen Vivica Genaux, "Cor mio che prigion sei", Atenaide, Vivaldi, live Fabio Blondi, Europe Galante, very RARE and Amazing Vivaldi....simply GREAT Music!!!.....and also the Fragment she does for the film Fracture : Ombra Fedele Anch'io but the best, better than her old version, and simply amazing Legato....any way see what you think....

@CountertenorJ And I have no reason to bash this woman. She is one of my favorite singers, period. That does not mean she is above flaw. That does not mean she is above the truth. And what I have said is the truth.

@SkateNater That is just patently false. Spectographic analysis says otherwise.

@bf2019 You are more than welcome. I am still prepared to agree to a tie. Might I add that it is a pleasure to have a debate such as this without it degenerating into a slanging match and being punctuated with gutter language as I have seen in other posts. My respects to you also.

@bf2019 How about a tie for 1st? I admit I haven't listened to a lot of Vivica. However I made it my business to do so and concede that she is brilliant and worthy of the obvious high regard you have for her. While I don't necessarily agree with your comments regarding "Flicka's" phrasing or flow, I can see that Vivica's coloratura is exceptional. I think it is Flicka's understated "colour" that attracts me to her. To me she doesn't need to embellish to bring off a performance.

@bf2019 My dear, EVERY female singer studies Callas intensely for ANY aria. I will not be surprised if some tenors do the same thing. Genaux definitely has made this aria hers as well. And that is the mark of not just a good, but a great singer. But, Rossini did listen to a soprano perform one of his arias once and wondered who wrote it. Rossini's vocal music is of a time and genre where singers can take liberties, but Callas is pretty restrained about this, as a matter of principle.

@Desigovia Yes...I like the Frederica version (of the filmed performance)...Her singing is really articulate, and she gives a really great character performance as always (same as Vivica in the live performances)....however I don't think her phrasing is ever as beautiful as Vivica's here (or that her coluratura is as good as Vivica's)....and I find that I did really Like Frederica...her Heart is really there....I watched her many times... frankly I also think her voice could "flow" better.. 3rd?
@Desigovia I've listened to Vivica & Fredericka again multi times...I'm stunned by Fredericka's performance: Her TRIUMPHANT Sweetness is Just Huge...Where she is coming from, is simply Bigger than where Vivica is coming from...(I hate saying this..(how can someone be coming from a place Bigger than Vivica?/hehe)) I am not sure Vivica's Coluratura is better? More Dramatic maybe...Better? so I am Returning Fredericka to 1st...Thanks for the Invite to the cup of tea,..and All my due Respects to you

Take a step back everyone, take a deep breath and a cup of tea, settle into a comfy chair and listen to and watch Frederica "Flicka" Von Stada. She arguably is the standout performer not only in this aria but in any of the other performances she does. There are no facial contortions, physical straining or histrionics. The voice just flows easily and evenly from mezzo to soprano and nails every note
